On January 20, Mzia Amaglobeli was visited by her brother, Malkhaz Amaglobeli, at the Rustavi penitentiary facility. He spent last night outside Rustavi Prison. Family members of prisoners, relatives, supporters, and journalists waited throughout the night near penitentiary facilities for the appearance of those who had been pardoned.
As of now, it remains unknown whom the Georgian Dream-appointed President Mikheil Kavelashvili has pardoned.
On January 19, Mikheil Kavelashvili pardoned 159 convicted prisoners in connection with the Epiphany holiday.
Mzia Amaglobeli is the founder and co-director of the media outlets Batumelebi and Netgazeti. She has been unlawfully imprisoned for more than a year. On December 16, 2025, while still in detention, the journalist and media manager Mzia Amaglobeli was awarded the European Union’s highest human rights honor, the Sakharov Prize, at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
